About Jeff Johns – @phpfunk
I am a young(esque) web professional who has been working on web sites, design, code, etc since 1999. I like to be unseen for the most part. Having a lot of recognition is really not my style. I like to work, work smart and produce good products. Whether someone knows me or not is irrelevant.
Short Bio
I am currently living in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and working for Journal Register Company as Lead Web Developer. I have been working there since March 2010. Previously I worked at Viddler as Director of Projects for 11 months and The Morning Call (A Tribune Company) for 5 and half years as The Interactive Product Development Manager. I love working in the media business, fast-paced, innovative and something new every day.
I am a hardcore PHP phanatic. I went to school for design many years ago and somehow got into web programming. PHP was the first web language I learned and it stuck for quite some time now. I also love writing JavaScript, specifically using the jQuery library. Over the years I have been able to pick up languages when working on certain jobs; Java, JSP, Perl, etc. I believe they all serve a purpose depending on the job you are about to embark on.
Personal Life
Personally, I love my family, music and code. They keep me going and I hope to use this space to show you that. I have been blessed with a gorgeous and caring wife Anne and two amazing daughters; Anya and Ivy. We also have a crazy 5 year-old yellow lab named Farley. He is still a handful. If you have ever read Marley and Me, it is an exact replica of my dog. Crazy but I love him (most times).
Musically I am typically into indie hip-hop, indie rock and turntable music. I hope to bring some valid opinions using this blog to showcase some music I like, samples, video and where you can pick it up.
As far as code, I write a lot of it. I am going to also have posts about some neat little code snippets, libraries, etc that you can use free of charge, a tutorial if you will.
We will see how all this pans out, but I need to get writing again. Feel free to contact me here with any questions, comments, job inquiries, etc.
